Perry was the daughter of Laurie Metcalf (actor) and Jeff Perry (actor). The character Jackie Harris was played by her mother in both the two episodes she appeared on Roseanne. Fearing stress, her parents did not want to see her pursue acting before she reached the age of 18. Perry confessed that she wasn't confident in her acting during high school, but started doing it to make friends during her time at Northwestern University after switching from Boston University. The Other Place was performed by her and her mother in 2013 on Broadway in 2013 The show featured their father Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in 2015 on The Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. Perry was in nine episodes on ABC's drama The Family during 2016. She had a regular role in the ABC political drama Scandal that starred her dad. The same year, she played a young model of Mary Cooper on Young Sheldon (a CBS spinoff The Big Bang Theory) in which she played her mother in a youthful version. The role was given an audition to the actress, even though she has a family tie to the role.
